Canada is a part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). Because of this, you have a choice of using any of the following documents when traveling to Canada: your US passport book, your passport card, or your NEXUS card. You may also use your passport book or card, as well as other travel documents when using the other WHTI countries and areas: Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
If you’re going to travel to Canada by land, you can use your passport card. All you need to do is to present this at the US-Canada border as proof of your identity and your citizenship. Getting yourself a US passport card is a lot like your passport book. Simply fulfill the necessary requirements to get one. It’s also convenient to have a passport card as it fits in your wallet compared to the bulky passport book (although the book can also slip easily into your pocket). The passport card is also cheaper, which may be a cost-effective solution if you’re just planning on visiting Canada and other WHTI countries by land or sea.
For international air travel, you will need a US passport book. If you don’t have an idea what it is, it is the conventional passport book that’s been used even before the introduction of the passport card in 2008. That said, you’ll need a passport book if you’re taking a plane to Canada.
However, if you want to combine the benefits of both the passport card and the passport book, then you can always apply for both types of passports. So for example, you just want to visit WHTI areas, you’ll just need to bring the passport card in your wallet. However, if you’re traveling to international destinations that are not part of the WHTI, you will then need to have your passport book ready. Applying for these passports at the same time is recommended, as there is a corresponding discount when you do.
All in all, you can never lose with any of these passport options. What’s important is that you find out first what kind of traveling you expect yourself to make often. From there, you’ll know what type of passport if best for you.
Now, if you regularly travel to Canada, then you have the option of applying for a NEXUS card. Having this card has several privileges. Among these privileges is that having a NEXUS card makes it faster for you to cross borders on land, as there are dedicated NEXUS lanes that cut your travel time significantly. It’s also best to check with the Canadian Embassy for any other travel documents that might be required for you to travel to Canada.

Right.
Compatibility is what makes a relationship work. It’s what assures us that who we picked is right for us. But what exactly is compatibility?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, to be compatible with another person means to exist in perfect harmony with them. Well, that would be nice, but not very practical. Perfect harmony is not a feasible goal, although we should aim for an affable relationship so that we can live in accord with one another. What we need is for the person with whom we want to spend the rest of our life with to accept and respect our values.
Each person has a set of core values that he or she lives by. It’s what makes us tick. It’s those deep-down fundamental needs that we all carry within ourselves that must be fulfilled in order for us to be happy. We usually develop our value systems early in life, and get most of them from our parents and family members, and our cultures and religions. It’s what gives us strength and our sense of security. If we are with someone who doesn’t respect our values, it can threaten our security, our sense of self and who we are. It can shake our entire foundation. We lose trust with those who don’t accept us for our beliefs.
Then does compatibility mean that we have to be with someone who shares the exact same values? The same likes and dislikes and behaviors? That may seem a harmonious way to live and less cause for arguments, but is it practical? How many people have you met who share the exact same ideas and needs and principles as you do? And what about the old adage, opposites attract? That’s a great way to learn new things and keep a relationship alive, right? Yeah, and constant screaming matches when you get so frustrated by the crazy things your loved-one is doing.
While we don’t need to be with someone who entirely shares our values, we do need for our loved one to accept the values we hold dear and to respect them. And we need to respect their values as well. And for someone to accept a value or a belief, they must also find some merit in its importance. For example, if you believe financial security is very important, and your significant other just spends as he pleases, you’ll never get along. Your value, your belief that financial security will make you safe is a fundamental principle in your life. Without it, you’ll feel insecure and unhappy. So his spending will always make you feel anxious.
It’s the same with any other value. We hold onto these beliefs for our well-being and our happiness. To be with someone who challenges our values and goes against them will cause us to lose our foundation, our security and our trust. We must be compatible in our relationships with others to continue to grow and to be happy.
When you’re with someone who accepts you and respects your values, even if he or she doesn’t share all of them, you’re almost always guaranteed a successful relationship.

Third grade is perhaps the first real experience children have of their active role in school life. This is the year when academic studies become more challenging; reading materials become more in depth, math concepts begin to spiral and students are expected work more independently.
Third grade is a significant year for students. Multiplication and division are learned and practiced during this time. These skills are critical as they lay the foundation for higher-level math yet to come. Many students experience stress from academic pressure for the first time, as they seek to grasps new concepts.
Parents see their children becoming frustrated with math concepts and seek to offer comfort. Oftentimes parents share that they too found math challenging as a child. These words spoken with good intent have a tendency to backfire for the student. What their mind hears from the parent’s well-meaning words is,
“Therefore, neither will you.”
Many teachers have had students who struggle with math sigh in resignation, as they share out loud, “my parents were not good at math either”.
The admission of academic weakness from the parent becomes an excuse, a reason if you will, for children not to put forth much effort. This defeated attitude does not serve students as they seek to understand new concepts in any area of academics.
For parents with good intentions, there are more constructive ways to give assurance and support. Listed are some suggestions that offer encouragement while facilitating growth in any academic area.
1. Let children know you have full confidence in their abilities. (Use matter of fact language. Leave no doubt that you believe in them.)
2. Create a specific time and place in the home for homework to be completed. (This adds structure and organization to their physical environment, as their mental abilities feel challenged.)
3. Have an adult in close proximity when children are doing homework. (This serves to keep them on task and to offer assistance if needed.)
4. Reinforce that some things take time and practice. (Tell them it is like a puzzle they may have had as a child. At first it was difficult, but over time it got easier.)
5. If your child becomes frustrated, ask school officials for resources in tutoring. (Many schools offer morning or afternoon tutoring done by the teachers.)
Your attitude towards their learning is a huge indicator of their level of determination. Be positive about their learning. Celebrate small successes. This encourages them to continue working towards their goals. Let your children know challenging material is good for the mind and aids in its growth. Your involvement and follow through will help to instill a positive self image as your children grow and learn.

By incorporating some security products you will at least have an advantage over the person who is procrastinating whether to protect their home or not. In the same way an insurance policy protects against an unfortunate event – your home security products will go at least some way to prevent crime and make the burglar move on.
So what choice has the homeowner when it comes to home security products?
There are all kinds of visual monitoring devices such as outdoor surveillance cameras, indoor cameras such as nanny cams and spy cams. These can be either wired or wireless. The latter provides a much easier installation which is ideal for the DIY’er thus keeping costs down. These products are in high demand as they provide visual evidence that later can be used in court to convict the intruder.
Burglar alarms are one of the most common home security devices that most people think of and these are also available as hard wired and wireless. You have a choice of monitored security whereby a company constantly monitors your home 24 hours a day and if your burglar alarm is triggered, the emergency services will be contacted and help will be on its way. A monthly subscription is paid for home security monitoring – but it is well worth it.
Door chime and annunciator devices send an alert when motion is detected around the outside of your home. Glass break detectors are an ideal inexpensive security device which will alarm if your windows are smashed by the burglar to gain entry to your home.
Consider your security lighting for both indoors and outdoors. Timer devices can be used on your indoor lamps to give the impression that someone is at home. Outside, fit lighting with PIR sensors that detect movement.
For those on a budget then both dummy security cameras and alarm bell boxes are available at a fraction of the cost of a real system. These devices act as a highly visual deterrent to the would-be burglar which will make them move on to an easier target.

No player on the Rockies had over 100 RBI for the year but that didn’t seem to matter – Troy Tulowitzki lead the team with 92. The Rockies spread their offense well throughout the line up with 5 players over 70 RBI and 4 players over 20 HR. Todd Helton – at age 36 – lead the team in batting average at .325 and hits with 177. Helton has a career batting average of .328 – which is tremendous.
With Helton getting on in age the Rockies look to Troy Tulowitzki as the clubs future. Tulowitzki had a great first full rookie season. In 2008, Tulowitzki was hurt much of the season but had a comeback year in 2009 leading the team in HR with 32. If Tulowitzki keeps this up and remains healthy, he could possibly win an MVP some day.
The Rockies pitching was good all year with Jorge De La Rosa winning 16 games on the season. Ubaldo Jimenez followed De La Rose with 15 wins with but with more strikeouts, 198. Closer Hudson Street had 35 saves in 37 attempts on the regular season. Street failed to seal the game 4 for the Rockies – which will haunt him the entire off-season.
The Rockies should have another divisional title run in them for 2010 and challenge the Dodgers all season long.
